Following the success of last year’s new look preregistration training programme, AAH Pharmaceuticals, in conjunction with Buttercups Training Ltd, is launching this year’s programme with an improved syllabus to reflect the changing face of pharmacy.
The training will again be held over a course of three residential events as it proved to be extremely popular with trainees. In addition, an introduction to MURs, veterinary pharmacy and pharmacy management have all been added to the extensive programme of study.
Ajit Malhi, head of marketing services for AAH said: “This is a crucial time of year for preregistration trainees as they look to embark upon their first real taste of the day-to-day life of a pharmacist.
“It is important that they receive the right guidance and training and this new look service that Buttercups Ltd is running for AAH customers certainly demonstrates how training needs to reflect a changing profession.”
The 2008/09 programme starts with a tutor induction day on July 28. The following three residential events, delivered by an experienced pharmacist who understands both the pressures of a preregistration year and the need to adopt a professional and responsible attitude, take place in September 2008, January 2009 and April 2009.
Key components to be covered are; responding to symptoms, law and ethics, pharmaceutical calculations, clinical sessions by BNF chapter, the drug tariff and exam technique.
Daljit Poone, preregistration tutor at Balmoral Pharmacy in Northampton, who has been tutoring trainee Darshna Patel for the past year said: “Darshna, more affectionately known as ‘Rita’, has had a fantastic year with the preregistration training.
“Everything from the residential training to the ongoing support that she receives has been extremely professional, and, I know that she has benefited from the interaction with other trainees when she has attended the courses.
“I have three more preregistration trainees starting imminently and they too will be attending the courses – it has been money well invested.”
Hannah Stratton, head of professional services for Buttercups Training Ltd, commented: “We try to make the training as realistic as possible while also ensuring that our trainees profit from the extra curricular activities and workshops.
“Last year, every trainee passed which is excellent news and demonstrates that we have the right processes in place. This year, all trainees will be given access to the new Buttercups Pharmacy e-Training System (PeTS).
“This ensures that they are in a position to download homework assignments and keep in touch with the latest news and developments which affects preregistration trainees.”
