Scottish pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are due to benefit from being the first in the UK to receive a web based training and support programme on eMAS.
The programme, supplied by AAH Pharmaceuticals, is the latest addition to the company’s LINK system. Customers in Scotland have been using LINK to support their minor ailments services for the past two years; the new support programme will allow pharmacists and pharmacy staff to learn how to use the systems functionally using short interactive courses.
Leon Rudd, director of marketing for AAH said: “The programme will be going live very soon and we have already held one workshop in Edinburgh with 11 representatives from Pharmacy.
“The aim is to improve our training for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on LINK and reduce calls to our Customer Systems Service Desk. However, what is more significant is the added value that our customers will receive in implementing their eMAS service.
“Stage two will see computer based training on eAMS. This will take place even before the software is deployed in Scotland so our customers will be able to hit the ground running.”
The training is web-based, allowing pharmacy staff to access the website at any time of the day and from anywhere that has an internet connection. Interactive learning packages demonstrate ‘show me’ areas and ‘guide me’ simulation, the software can then test their knowledge to improve the users’ skills.
In addition, the site will house a forum, so members will be able to discuss best practice in relation to a particular module.
George Romanes of the Romanes Pharmacy Group attended the initial workshop and can see the clear benefits that this will offer. He said: “It will supply vital training to locums and support staff at a time that is convenient to them rather than having to drive 50 or 100 miles during an evening.
“This will save valuable time and money while also streamlining the way in which the whole training procedures are administered.”
