Pharmacists can receive a boost to their bottom line each year should they embark upon an INR Warfarin management programme with the help of AAH Pharmaceuticals.
With hospital clinics feeling the pressures of annual increases of patients being prescribed Warfarin, PCTs are funding local INR clinics to ease this burden. This represents a perfect opportunity for pharmacy to deliver these services to the community.
AAH, in partnership with Roche Diagnostics, can help pharmacists and Local Pharmaceutical Committees bid for PCT tenders, as long as minimum requirements set down by the PCT are met, e.g. having a consultation area with a sink.
In addition, full meter training will be given on Roche’s market-leading CoaguChek XS INR monitoring device.
Ajit Malhi, head of marketing services for AAH said: “Many pharmacies are already running an INR clinic, which lends itself to increased footfall, customer retention and of course funding from their PCT.
“However, it also strengthens the case that pharmacists can make a real and valid impact upon their communities and enhance their standing as a local healthcare provider.
“Pharmacies have all the given attributes to run an INR clinic – they are convenient and unique and an excellent access point for the community. Processes are also quick and simple and thus results are available in a matter of minutes; ensuring pharmacists can spend adequate time counselling patients.”
Any changes in INR that require intervention may be initiated immediately through a robust referral process with the patient’s GP or by the pharmacist under local agreement.
To further support pharmacists, AAH has produced a mailer that pharmacists may return by post, the company will then ensure that pharmacists are guided through the tendering process and implementation of the service in their pharmacy.
