The electronic minor ailments service – enhancing patient care
For community pharmacists across Scotland, the new electronic minor ailments service (eMAS) is revolutionising the way prescriptions are managed. As one of the core services within the new contract, it is already being implemented. But what exactly does it mean to you?
In short, eMAS will allow a pharmacist to prescribe free* treatment for minor ailments for patients who are exempt from prescription charges*.
A patient first needs to register with a pharmacy, at which point the pharmacist will complete an electronic record of that registration to be held on a central server. Pharmacists can then prescribe for patients using an electronic prescription form. This information is automatically sent to the central server and added to the patient’s records, and transferred to Central Services Scotland who will manage the pharmacists reimbursement.
For community pharmacists, eMAS brings major benefits. Firstly, saving time by generating prescriptions using a computer, rather than having to hand-write them. In addition, pharmacists will be able to access all registered patients’ records. So when a patient asks for advice and treatment, LINKEvolution can display their complete minor ailment treatment history instantly.
LINKEvolution delivers the perfect eMAS solution, empowering community pharmacists to provide their patients with a fast, effective and seamless service. This advanced system not only brings integrated functionality for maximum clinical effectiveness, but a user-friendly interface that makes managing every aspect of eMAS easy.
LINKEvolution gives you immediate access to patients’ medical records – vital as consultations are carried out. Patient Intervention Notes are also integrated within the system, so you can record interventions straight away and add them to your patient’s records.
Using ETP technology to dispense eMAS prescriptions, LINKEvolution guarantees improved clinical safety, increased accuracy for PMR data and saves time for the pharmacist.
Patient safety is enhanced through the use of the dm+d single coding system for all medicines and devices.
LINKEvolution brings eMAS directly to the desktop, giving pharmacies all the benefits of this key element of the new contract.
