Drug Data File
First DataBank Europe (FDBE) supplies the Multilex Drug Data File (Multilex DDF), the drug knowledge base integrated into your LINK system. Multilex DDF provides a wealth of clinical and commercial information on thousands of pharmaceutical products, automatic endorsing support and clinical decision support. Integrated into clinical systems, it supports community pharmacists in making informed decisions about all aspects of medicines management and complements the patient counselling process.
Through its partnerships with healthcare system providers such as AAH, FDBE's clinical decision support is in daily use by thousands of healthcare professionals in the UK.
NHS Connecting for Health has chosen First DataBank Europe to provide drug related clinical decision support.
Patient Specific Information
Multilex DDF is integrated into LINK systems. Its clinical decision support, when linked with the Patient Medical Record (PMR), enables the following patient specific checks:
- Drug-drug interactions - to check if a patient's current medication interacts with the medication about to be dispensed. All drug interactions are rated by severity.
- Sensitivities - to check if the medication about to be dispensed contains the same or related active ingredients as any sensitivities recorded on the PMR.
- Contraindications and precautions - to check the medication about to be dispensed against the patient's age, sex and any recorded medical conditions.
- Drug doubling - to check the ingredients of a patient's current medication against the medication about to be dispensed for duplication of ingredients.
Multilex DDF also provides information on CSM 'black triangle products'.
Support for Endorsing
You can choose to have the FDBE endorsing tool integrated into your LINK system. The endorsing tool translates the complex Drug Tariff endorsing rules for you - saving you time due to the reduction in manual endorsing. Future enhancements to the tool will allow full integration of the NHS Dictionary of Medicines and Devices (dm+d) for Electronic Prescription Services (EPS).
