Reflect on your potential

Do you have what it takes to be the next Pharmacy Technician of the Year?

Do you feel that you have made an important contribution in your role as a Pharmacy Technician in either Primary or Secondary Care? Or perhaps one of your colleagues has shown outstanding commitment? It's always good to receive recognition and that's exactly why the prestigious APTUK Pharmacy Technician Awards wer created in 1997.

Could you, or one of your colleagues, be one of the 2011 Pharmacy Technicians of the Year?

There are three levels of awards, Primary, Secondary and Professional. The Primary and Secondary Care Awards are open to all Pharmacy Technicians in any field of practice to enter themselves, whilst the Professional Award requires a nomination by a colleague.

Winners for all three categories receive a generous package that includes:

  • An education bursary
  • A framed certificate
  • An engraved trophy
  • Membership of the APTUK for one year

Most importantly, winners receive the acknowledgement and recognition of their peers when they are presented with their award at the APTUK Gala Dinner.

Primary Care Award

The Primary Care Award is open to all Pharmacy Technicians in any field of practice.

If you are currently working on a project in your day-to-day role and you are interested in submitting it for the Primary Care Awards, please email esther.joberns@aah.co.uk with 'APTUK/AAH Award Report Idea' as your subject. This will not commit you to entering but will give us an indication of the level of response to the awards.

To enter, your submission will need to demonstrate a significant contribution in the following key areas:

  • Innovation Service improvement/development Clear evidence of personal input
  • A definitive outcome that demonstrates benefit to either patient and/or organisation

Secondary Care Award

The Secondary Care Award is open to all Pharmacy Technicians in any field of practice. If you are currently working on a project in your day-to-day role and you are interested in submitting it for the Secondary Care Awards, please email esther.joberns@aah.co.uk with 'APTUK/AAH Award Report Idea' as your subject. This will not commit you to entering but will give us an indication of the level of response to the awards.

To enter, your submission will need to demonstrate a significant contribution in the following key areas:

  • Innovation Service improvement/development Clear evidence of personal input
  • A definitive outcome that demonstrates benefit to either patient and/or organisation

Primary/Secondary Entry Process

To ensure that your entry is valid, please make sure that you follow these guidelines:

Your report must be submitted in Arial 10 pt and double spaced. It should comprise the following:

Cover sheet (Word document), with the following details:

  • Name, job title, address, telephone number and e-mail address
  • The category you are entering, e.g. Secondary Care Award
  • Title of report
  • Level of your involvement in this project/report
  • Technician registration number and qualifications taken
  • Name and job title of your Manager (Please can all Managers send an email to esther.joberns@aah.co.uk confirming their approval and awareness of the entry being submitted)
  • Where you heard about the award
  • Please confirm that the report is original and has not been submitted for publication elsewhere
  • Word count of report (Please note that the maximum word count is 3000)

Main body of report (3000 max word count), following the format below:

  • Abstract – (maximum 300 words)
  • Introduction, including aims
  • Method (materials and participants involved, how measurements were taken and how many, what calculations were used)
  • Results e.g. in tables or graphical format
  • Discussion
  • Personal input, i.e. please indicate which areas of the report you have carried out on your own
  • Appendices/supporting material

Professional Award: Nominating

Would you like to nominate a colleague?

We are looking for nominations for the Pharmacy Technicians who represent shining examples of the best of the profession. Has one of your colleagues made an outstanding contribution to the profession or shown exceptional commitment? If so, they could be a candidate for the Pharmacy Technician of the Year Professional Award in 2011.

The Professional Award is open to all Pharmacy Technicians in any field of practice.

Our judging panel is looking for a Pharmacy Technician who has the following qualities:

  • They have raised the profile of the profession They are a role model They promote the role of the Pharmacy Technician They engage in activities over and above their day-to-day role They demonstrate expertise in their field
  • They set an example for their profession

The closing date for nominations is 31 January 2011.
